Root Canal

The pain from a cavity or broken tooth is not going to heal by itself. Meanwhile, infection from the tooth can spread to other parts of the body; tooth and gum disease raises the risk of long term bad health outcomes such as heart disease. The longer you wait, the more likely it becomes that you may need a tooth extraction or a Root  Canal (and/or a costly replacement by means of a bridge or implant, depending on where the decaying tooth is). It is better to get dental care soon instead of later.

If money is an issue, check with dental schools - they may offer discounted treatments (a dental student will do the work, under supervision of a qualified professional dentist). Some states also sponsor low cost dental care options.
